As a rider, your physiology, posture and lifestyle all affect how you ride. What you may not realize is asymmetries in your posture and balance have the greatest impact on your movement and alignment, as well as impacting your horse’s movement and alignment. In fact, in some cases, we have found that the same physiological challenges we find in a horse can also be found in the horse’s rider. As an athlete, your conditioning program can have a significant impact on your performance and the performance of your equine partner.
The Jaeckle Centre provides our riders with two important conditioning therapies: Fit2Ride Stott Pilates ® and Fit2Ride Massage. The key to getting the most from our Fit2Ride Conditioning Services is not waiting until your performance suffers or– worse–you become injured. Ideally, riders should make both Fit2Ride Pilates® and Massage a regular part of their schedule.
Fit2Ride Stott Pilates®
Fit2Ride Stott Pilates®, taught by Beki Kroll, our Stott Pilates Certified Instructor, will increase your body awareness and improve your flexibility, balance, and core strength to maximize your riding performance. Specifically, Stott Pilates focuses on your mind and body connection in order to:
- Lengthen your spine
- Strengthen your core
- Increase your flexibility and balance
- Strengthen and protect your lower back
- Increase your hip movement
- Increase your leg strength and stability
Stott Pilates will benefit your riding in several critical ways including: improving your posture, deepening your seat and creating a neutral pelvis so you can easily follow your horse’s movement to develop a stronger connection and response from your commands.
Riders often believe that riding itself is the best conditioning. However, without proper training and core strength development, we can develop improper body alignment and posture and begin to compensate for these challenges in ways that reduce our ability to deliver our best performance. By re-training your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion, you will improve your performance and reduce the risk of injury for you and your equine partner.
Small group and private one-on-one sessions are available by appointment. We recommend a minimum program of two sessions per week. Please contact us for prices and schedule availability.
A common issue for riders is over-exercised core muscles which leads to an imbalance in the lower back. Riders also have unique muscle requirements especially in the leg, hip, abdominal, shoulder and back muscles. Beki Kroll, our Stott Pilates® Certified Trainer, is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and is fully trained to identify and relieve conditions that may affect your ride. The result of our Fit2Ride Massage will be better balance and a more relaxed seat. Massage Therapy can also help prevent injuries that can be caused by riding with stiff and tight muscles.
A regular Fit2Ride Massage will:
- Break up scar tissue that can build up in your muscles.
- Loosen muscles that have contracted (shortened) with continued use.
- Improve blood flow to your muscles to lessen soreness.
- Allow more oxygen to move into your muscles.
- Improve the flow of lymphatic fluid, which aids in healing.
- Reduce the chance of injury.
- Improve range of motion and muscle flexibility.
- Shorten recovery time between rides.
- Separate and spread the individual muscle fibers to help provide faster return to a relaxed state.
We recommend a half-hour to one-hour massage once a week for maximum benefit. Please contact us for prices and schedule availability.
